Dr. Maria Sakaeva from Ukhta State Technical University in Russia will give a talk on:
Moonlighting Politicians in Russia: Capacity and Privileges of Businessmen in Local Elected Bodies.
"My research focuses on connections between business and politics by investigating entrepreneurial practices of the members of local legislatures with business background. I demonstrate due to what favours and benefits politically affiliated businesspersons gain more secured positions on the market and what limitations they face in making their political careers."
Dr. Sakaeva is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Humanities and Deputy Director for the Center of Project Management at Ukhta State Technical University. She is an economic sociologist who received her PhD from Higher School of Economics in Moscow. In her dissertation, Dr. Sakaeva studied the practices in the use of administrative resources by entrepreneurs who are also members of regional legislatures in North-Western Russia. Currently, she is working on entrepreneurs in the Russian North, including Komi Republic and Perm region.
